I hear this squeeling sound while turning the steering wheel when I am not moving or just starting to move. Is this from the belt? I have power streering. The belt looks ok, and is not loose. The fluid level is ok, and the belt is in good shape. What could be making this noise? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Squealing sounds like a belt slipping, but Ford power steering pumps are notorious for having a whining sound.
-Mine has been whining for awhile. Somebody told me once that the whining is caused from air in the power steering pump??? The sound doesn't really bother me, kinda got used to it.
-If your running larger sized tires, try to be moving when your turning the steering wheel, it's easier on all the steering components.
No, no glazing, it actually looks kinda good, but I may change it since it has been on since before I bought it a year ago, and I dont know how long it was on before I bought it. Thanks, I will have someone turn the wheel while observingi!
If it has been slipping, the pulleys may be glazed too. When you replace the belt, use some sand paper and carb cleaner to clean the pulley grooves. Or you may end up with the new belt squealing soon - been there, done that...
Never, never use belt dressing or lube on the pulleys or belts - it does more harm that good...
