How youve gotta ask, will that engine replace the 5.4L or will it maybe even replace the V10 in the Super Duty?
Im also curious as to whether it will be a pushrod engine or an overhead cam.
I can't see it being a pushrod engine. That's just saying, "We wasted our time with OHC engines..."
I thought we all knew it was back like 3 months ago when that thread popped up concerning the union? 6.2L, and 4.4L engines slated for production in their plants.
Now, the real question is...how much power? I hope VVT is incorporated into this engine....and a manual transmission offered. I'm gonna guess that since the 6.1L, and 6.2L competitors engines are around 400 hp, the 6.2L Hurricane will be as well. Then we will see an small increase in the 5.4L to shorten the power gap between the two engines.
I can see the 3V 5.4L going to 330hp with a 6-speed transmission for the '08 MY.

A little birdy told me that there would be 2 spec levels of the Hurricane - whether both will make it to production I don't know, both OHC.
But the upper spec level looked impressive... direct injection
I love that little birdy you speak with every once in a while
I was thinking that as well...two versions of the engine, a H.O. version, and a more level, moderate engine for fuel mileage. If this thing is hooked up to the hydraulic assist (if hydraulic assist happens in the near future), we will have something that could potentially destroy the competition.
Reporters ought to be more careful with their research. The 426 CID Chrysler Hemi was discontinued at the end of the 1971 model year, not in 1974 as the article states. Never ever believe everyting you read!
It sure was nice too see this in "print" for a change. As you said this was back on the "front burner" about 3 months ago. The casting plant at Cleveland has been and is continuing to be completely modernized to produce these new engines. New melting cupolas, new machines for core making, a new Sintercast CGI compacted graphite iron line. The goal is to have a world class casting facility by 2007. The head of Ford manufacturing told everyone the "only" reason for his being in Cleveland instead of some foreign country was CLEVELAND'S "outstanding quality metrics". It does my heart good too see someone acknowledge the hard work being done here in the old USA.
I agree that a pushrod engine would be a step backwards. If Ford is smart, they will make the engine DOHC. Look at the 5.4L the Navagator gets compared to the one the F-150/Expedition gets. The 32-valve DOHC 5.4L in the Navagator was putting out over 300 hp without VCT.
Do you not have the same emission regulations in Oz? Theres a lot of vehicles that are available in Europe and Japan that we cant get here in the states because the engines are too dirty.
Our current emissions standards are greater than those in the US (Euro III)...
Your diesel emission regs are much harsher though.
The same engine was sold briefly in the limited edition (100 units I believe) Mustang Cobra R
