My front caliper is failing, brakes are lost, it's pulling to the left real bad -- all of this intermittently, so these are pretty sure signs of caliper issues.
Anyway, I am ordering the part but also wonder what other parts I should replace while I am at. The hose? Is there a clip in there?
Is it a pretty straight-forward procedure, any problems I should anticipate?
Some will debate this issue but I'll say, and usually what my finances will allow I do em' one at a time. This usually works for me w/ my 90 Ranger 2.3/EFI/M5OD!
But if your one that likes to do and get the job done then do both...it's your choice!
And it is a 90 and maybe the latter would be better!
But with my past experiences new isn't always the best answer either!
I had read a tip on changing brake pads that stated the number one mistake made by most would be to not crack the bleeder screw before pushing back the caliper piston with a large C-clamp. This prevents all the deteriorated junk and oxidized dirty fluid from being forced back into the system. If you have the caliper ready to install it is not an issue, but I was given the right front caliper for the left and had to return to the parts store for correction. During the time I was gone the fluid continued to drain out the hose and the master cylinder, next time I would have a bolt to plug the line. I would completely flush and bleed the whole system. I have an original caliper on the right front which is from the factory, 04-1989. The brake fluid was never changed from factory to 2002, changed 2002, 2004, 2006. There is a lot of black junk in the discarded brake fluid.
Interesting. I am pretty sure there is a problem with the wheel in whose direction it's pulling (so badly so that if you let go of the steering wheel, it will change lanes very quickly)
I saw smoke come from the area of that troublesome wheel.
