change oil pan in truck

oil pan is leaking-rusted and seeping thru-someone told me i could lift up engine and change it without pulling motor out-its a 92 f150 4wd 351w-it doesn't look like there is enough room to drop it down and out-anyone done this? thanks

Have done this many times and its really a pain to do. It is correct it can be done by lifting the engine to get the pan out but you basicaly have to undo the mounts to lift it far enough and just be careful you dont lift it to high and break anywires or the fan hitting the radiator.

Yep. Jack the motor (carefully) up just far enough to be able to reach in and unbolt the oil pump, drop (gently) the pump down in the pan, and slide the pan and pump out. Assembly is a pain in the you-know-what, but it can be done. I would recommend replacing the pump. They're cheap, and since you've already got it apart..... DO NOT jack it up on the harmonic balancer. If you've got access to an engine hoist, use it. It's safer, and it will be out of your way. Remember- if you raise the truck, always use jack stands!
