I just got for free a Valet 562T remote starter. How hard are these to install or how much is it to get installed? I dont really have that much money considering i just bought a 99 f-350PSD. I got it off my gf's car because the person who owned it before her hooked it up on a manual tranny car and right before she bought it the dealership accidently hit the button and it hopped forwards so they just unhooked the anntenna for it. I'd really like to use it since i live in MI.
I'd suggest a pro. I had a Valet remote start-alarm in my Ex, and with the amount of tapping into factory wiring involved....it would cost alot more to fix a possible problem than pay to have it installed in the first place.
Installation usually runs anywhere between 100 and 200 dollars. I installed the remote start unit on my manual transmission Mustang, and let me just say, I will never do it again. I hate crawling around under the dash and breaking your back trying to make a few splices. You will be much happier having a professional install the unit.
I din't know you could install a remote start on a Diesel engine...Does the thing pre-heat your glowplugs for you on cold starts? If this is the case I am SO getting one!
yes, they can do a delay for glow plugs. I have a python 881xp in my 03 f350 6.0l.The delay is set for 20 seconds, and it works well for a cold climate. I have ordered a new 06 truck and am having my system removed and put in new truck.
I can't remember what I paid for my install and system. Mine is a two way paging sytem.
I had some tricks done to mine like an integrated garage door opener.
I am fairly handy around a car (having restored several to Nat'l winner status), so I'm not afraid of the work. It's just that with the way electronics are in a car..they do not even suggest using a test light any more as some of the circuits work on a very low current (like those leading to the GEM) and using a light could damage things.
The remote start i had in my '99 f250 5.4 had a wire in the harness that could be hooked up to the "wait to start" light on a diesel, when it sensed that the light went out it would start the truck. Getting one installed in the '04 6.0 I just bought. I installed the one in my '99, but I'm leaving it to the pros this time around. Ask the intaller if they solder everything, some places will solder all the connections for a small fee.
Well today i started lookin under my dash and it already has one but it doesnt work because there is no wire going to the antenna. I think i could just work with those wires, its not worth me trying to fix this remote starter because i cant even find information on it, and the valet has the turbo timer.
I have a valet 562t on my 05 with 6.0. I love this thing. It really works great. It has a built in turbo timer and keyless entry too. It has alot of programable features.Another thing I like about it is :lets say you pull up to the gas station and you go in to get a drink all you do is push the start button twice while the truck is still running, this will put the truck in (short run mode)so you can take the keys out and lock the doors while the truck is still running. When you come back out the truck is still warm/cold depending on what you set the ac on! Also I had it installed for $100. It took the guy just over an hour to put it in.
One thing to remember that most auto starts diesel wire that has to be hooked to the wait to start light need a positive feed. The Wait to start light works on a ground feed...so you will need to install a relay and get a positive feed from somewhere.
Just a tip, skip the wait to start wire and program unit to wait 15-20 seconds before starting. I found using the wait to start wire made the truck start a little to soon on cold mornings. Using the timer allows globe plugs a decent amount of time to warm up. I have done about 10 remote installs now and our trucks are not that difficult to work on, so do not be intimidated by digging into the wires. Good Luck.
I just installed a Crimestopper 2011dp in my '05 PSD CC. Very nice install - remote start, keyless entry, alarm with shock sensor, door open trigger, ignition defeat, valet mode, and turbo timer. Skip the glow plug indicator light connection...use the timer mode. Remember, our glow plug circut is still hot even after the indicator light goes out. The extra warm up period will help the engine to fire with very minimal cranking time. The better systems out there have a connection-free tach monitoring program but I found the PSD does not start as well using this method. Fortunately, our SD's have a tach wire stubbed under the dash. (Green w/ white stripe - CTO for the SEIC)
