Here We Go!

Well, I guess it has begun! My overhaulin'! I just purchased a 292 and 4spd off ebay. Don't quite understand why it was so cheap, may be in for a disappointment, but it's a freed motor, mine is locked tight after sitting for 24 years. I pick it up at the end of april in KS, and will get started on my truck around the same time. Body off, RAT ROD, that doesn't sound right! No, I just want to take the body off frame, blast and powdercoat frame, rebuild. Then put the truck back sound, and do bodywork and finish in the Implement Green Suede paint. Sooooo Here WE GOOOO...

Be Careful! Your anticipated work sounds suspiciously like a completet frame off rebuild. These things tend to morph. It will tale ALOT more time and money than you expect. And if you start calling your project an "investment" you are in DEEP trouble!!!

Seriously though, I consider my project a hobby. It's always fun working on Big Red and let's me blow off some steam from slaying the dragon during the week. I can't wait to get her on the road.

I totally agree with f1fg. Mine started as a head gasket, then led me to find the PO's bone headed fabs. I could have gone milder, but what's the fun in that? Good luck in that Y block, man.

so, are you an okie? or a cajun? I suppose if you're from SE oklahoma you could be both.

figurin this one out...

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement, support and advice. I am aware that this will take quite a bit of money and time. I really don't want a show truck to say, I'm not that type of driver. I like enjoying and not having to worry all of the time. Been there done that with a 66 Eldo. The reason for the seperation of body and frame on this is due to the amount of time she's been sitting and possible, probable rust. Redo suspension, the motor just saved me approx. 1 - 2K of rebuilding one so, I think with a 1yr and 5K budget I should be able to meet VLV next april in my ol' girl....

Oh, and okiekajun... born in oklahoma, raised in la., moved back to oklahoma after HS for 15 years, but now back in la. Family lives in la. but my heart belongs to OK.

I was all pumped seeing someone else from louisiana on this site then you had to go and say your really from oklahoma, jeez thanks for ruining the moment. Just kidding. I like to start my projects buy pulling the motor and bodys as well, just to give the frame a good inspection and cleaning. I absolutly hate having to work on something and get covered in grease just changing the damn sparkplugs. I just get a peaceful easy feeling knowing the frame is clean and painted.

Hey if you guys were going to rebuild a suspension, would you just go to Napa and buy individual pieces or is there somewhere that sells a kit that would be cheaper and better??? 1960 F100
