Would that be true for a '77 wife has to file for a lost title on hers. O btw anyone know what size of rim i can put on a stock '77 uncut? Wife went back home to get the vin numbers so we could move her to where we live now and i guess someone decided they needed the wheels and tires more then us. Guess on the bright side they left it on blocks. I'm just needing a size so i can get some junk rims to get her moved.

BigFord74, Yes it should hold true for the 77's too. My 74 has it in both places. As to the wheels, I believe they are 15x7 from the factory. My 74 is un-cut also and I would be afraid to go any wider than 8", even that is pushing it with out a lift. Bolt pattern is 5 on 5.5". most all half ton fullsize ford trucks and vans used this bolt pattern, along with fullsize dodge rams and earlier cj jeeps. If you go junkyarding take a tapemeasure with you and verify the spaceing before you take them home. Some f-100's and I think f-150's in the early '80s used a smaller bolt pattern like the one used on rangers and full size cars like the crown vic...these wont work. On my '67 the vin was stamped into the top of the frame rail on the passenger side just below the firewall. You can faintly see it from outside the passenger front wheel opening, just behind the rear of the starter.
Try to get a mirror up there. It would be a bugger to see if it was dirty, so clean it well! Maybe rub some chalk into the numbering to make more visible.
I think this was a "hidden" location to aid law enforcement in detecting stolen vehicles.
The vin should also be on a tag on glove box door, but with how easily these parts interchange I'd question the authenticity of it.
