I have a 93 aerostar,
Seems to get water in the power steering system, then when it freezes (winter) pops a hole in the hose line.
Not that big of a deal to fix but a pain never the less.
Am I getting moisture somewhere else? I did find the power steering filler is right under the hood seam thought water was leaking in there so I put a plastic cup over the cap. Still pops late winter.
Why does the return line run up and down around the radiator.
My 90 F150 does not have this.
Thanks,
Some of you guys are car geniuses

Have you drained and replaced the fliuld? I also use the can over the filler cap, the drain for the grile above the hood drains onto the cap. Mine had water in the pump and the tempature here droped to -7 and I had to replace the pump amd the rack. The return comes back from around the rad. because of the cooler for the power steering is up there.
Yes I drained and redrained, thought I got the water out.
Is the return line just a week spot?
Is it ok just to bypass the cooler?
I haven't seen any other vehicles with one.
Thanks
don't bypass the cooler, helps prevent the pwr steering fluid from breaking down, pwr steering coolers are used on many hvy duty hi performance apps, racing, police cruisers, hvy duty trucks, construction equip...
do a flush with engine running, up on jack stands and turn steering back and forth lock to lock while flushing out return line
