The idler pully ( when looking at the engine from the front it is on the lower left side) on my truck is coming apart. With the belt off the pulley has way to much play in it and there is a little pile of metal shavings around the back of it, that would probably be what was the bearings I guess. It is making a pretty loud chirpping too.
So the question, it looks like a torx or allen head. Anyone know which one? If it is an allen head then is a 5/16 or 7.5mm? I have every size except these two... AND the killer question, is the pulley itself going to come off or does the whole assembly need to come out?
Thanks.
I can't really answer your question, but if you go to the parts store and inquire about the tensioner roller. If you have to buy the whole assembly, that would pretty much answer your question about whether the pulley is removable or not.
Well a quick trip to the parts house didn't turn up anything, they don't stock the pulley. A dealer had it, but closed at 5pm, they were an hour away... I still don't know if the pulley has a bearing in it...
I had the same one go out on my truck a year plus ago. It is a torx wrench, don't remember the size. I got a new pulley from Napa and correct torx socket at the same time. Just the pulley is replaceable, no need to do the whole thing. Mine jumped off/broke the bearings and also destroyed my belt (belt was relatively new at the time). At least yours didn't get to that point.
Thanks guys, I got it apart and will get the new bearing tomorrow. NAPA has some terrible hours for those of us who like to sleep in on the weekends!
As a side note, I had replaced the belt maybe a month ago, perhaps the strain of a new belt was too much for an old bearing?
What does the part number 6203 reference? I was at NAPA today and the guy couldn't find me a bearing with that number, he said that number was a book or manual... I also struck out on the whole assembly (pulley w/bearing), they don't stock it! I may just go to the dealer.
man tell him to look for a bearing 6203 2rsj. it has a rubber seal on both sides. look it up on the napa site you will see. if that number doesnt work type in just 6203 in the search and it will bring up all kinds.
you probably had some bootcamp kid helping you. go for another person the next time you go in there.
