Guys went to the muffler shop and asked the guy about cutting off my factory muffler and installing a after market one, he told me about $60 I think its a good price question is that should I have him weld it on or clamp it on?
Yes im still trying to deicide if I should get a Flowmaster 70 or a Gibson.
~Gage~
don't listen to him the tail pipe is welded to close and the rear hanger is welded to the muffler case. after it's cut off he's going to tell about the extras do it properly save the old one. in 1 peice
been there 4 times now . best to leave it stock then f it up.
So I should just cut the stock exhaust off in front of the stock muffler and take it out in 1 piece. I should have a new tailpipe made for the new exhaust?
If I do it that way I should just by a cat-back system from Gibson, only thing is should I get the kit with one 3" tailpipe, or the one with 2 2.5" tailpipes that exit the same side? Both kits come with 3" tips. What cat-back kits look better?
~Gage~
at the rear of the 2 into one collector .take it off there and do a cat back from that factory point. the muffler and both pipes come off from the 2 into one and all the hangers are welded to the muffler and tail pipe. muffler wise sound is up to you .duals out the back look good but the sound of a v10 is not any where like a v8. and be prepaired for the lost mpgs
monsta
i did loose 2 mpg's with a flow master 40 and 50 series got almost all back with the flow master 70 big block series.
in the factory tuning of the 3 valve motor the back pressure of the exhaust system is used durning the over lap phase of the intake .exhaust valve cycle. the back pressure causes a very short back flow that forces the air back into the intake penulim and acts like a mini super charger that helps force more air back into the next open intake valve set.
by tuning the intake like the german car maker's they used a very old tuning trick and few others. like the viriable lengh runners, they were able to get the extra hp out of the 3 valve motor and help make it the way it is. the 2 valve as far as i know and have seen don't have a tuned intake system.so any decrease in back pressure has no affect in the running of the motor.
in many ways this why some of us playing with a 3 valve motor found a loose of mpg's with a free flow exhaust over the stock one and found a return with more back presure .
yes i would go with a banks or use a flow master 17345 kit and modified the tail pipe a bit like i did. the rebending was minor the system looks and sounds ok .nothing like your banks a bit deeper on full pedal.
i sure don't want any one to think i am a know it. i'm not! but i tuned many german muliti valve motors. early on many times i wondered why they always sounded like a intake valve was leaking back into the intake penulem http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3898
is the kit i used and in the pdf on this page. you will find where and how they say to remove the stock system.
about some big name muffler shops . me personally imm i don't trust one of them. after being inside one as a part timer way back in the 60's and know how they b.s. the customer to buy extra. or say when it's apart we have it apart and found this and that. another reason i use only certain custom bend speed shops for exhaust work now.
So the Banks system has a deeper tone than Flowmaster 70?
~Gage~
Monsta where did you buy your Banks system at?
do you know were I can get that Banks system on-line?
Thanks ~Gage~
gage
tone is in the ears of the owner .each one of us like a different sound or tone. each one of us has played and found this and that.
for mine i have the ability to tie down on a dyno and find facts good or bad. a 3 valve v10 is pretty much wrung out from the factory and costs big bucks to get little back sans adding a super charger kit.
for you if that shops lets you. slip them on "the different mufflers" at the 2 into 1 conector fire it up and make up your own mind.
banks do a internet search and try and find a cheaper price. some times with banks it's easier to order right from them though their web site or 800 phone number.
sorry if i sound like a dick but i have a lot of mufflers we tryed at the shop only to take them back off a few days later. just do your self a favor save the stock system intact as a just incase.

Gage. To answer your original question, $60 seems reasonable to me. With all the factory improvments to the 05-06, {y-pipe, intake, 3 valves,} it seems our extinquished gentlemen here that have had both old and new are trying to tell you to leave it alone. As Chas has told you, if you make changes, make sure to keep the factory parts factory. Don't mutilate them or it will cost you big $$$ to go back to stock. Not sure what your area does for smog checks but I would keep that in mind too.
If I do get the Gibson system shoud I get the stainless for $525 or the aluminum for $384?
I know the stainless will last longer and I think stainless looks nicer too?
Also is it ok if the duals have two 2.5" pipes?
~Gage~
Geesh here's a guy that was worried about $60 dollars being too much and you guys talked him into $500 exhaust systems .Good sale .summit and jegs love you guys
Have fun,I thought you were pinching pennies, from your first post!
