Where to get 5" flex pipe

Many threads ago kwik mentioned he got 5" flex pipe from NAPA so he could dump his 5"exhaust forward of his rear wheel. The wife gave me the ok to get the 5" system. I wanted to make sure I could find everything for the install before ordering so I went to NAPA to check on the 5" flex pipe and clamps. The guy at NAPA had no idea what I was talking about, but said if I had a part# he could look it up. Does anyone know a part # or somewhere else I may be able to find it?

Any heavy truck parts/accessory store will have 5" flex.

Do a search for a TruckPro in your area. I know for a fact they have it.

That's odd. Generally the NAPA counter folks are pretty on the ball. You told him you wanted 5" flexible exhaust tubing and he had no idea? The NAPA part number is EXH55007. That's a 48" piece of 5" flex tubing. $38.49

Yeah, that's about what it cost me, and they were able to get me some extra 5" clamps as well.
Batgeek you are going to love it.

Thanks guys for the part #. I have to cut the kid at NAPA a break. It was one of their brand new super stores it had only been open for three days and the guy had just started.

I used it to complete my exhaust. All the 5" systems are for pickup trucks only. F-450 and up are not pickup trucks, they are technically "chassis cabs". You buy one and then you go to a seperate vendor to get your bed/box/whatever of choice in the rear.
The way that they are constructed there is NO WAY for anything other than the stock 3.5" pipe to fit over the rear axle. Simply not enough room for the pipe to fit over the axle and past the fuel tank. So we have to dump it in front of the rear wheel. That's where the flex pipe comes in.

You could do it to you pickup, too. It would make installation easier - AND - you wouldn't have the pipe to spare tire clearance problem. The pipe is SO close to the spare that I have a small spacer welded onto the pipe to keep the pipe from touching the spare tire.

I'll take a pic of it later and post it - it isn't much, but helps prevent melted rubber. I don't believe anything but a stock size tire can fit under there. I'm going to take one of my 285/75s and try to mount it in the spare tire position - haven't tried that yet. Stock was a little 235/85. The 285s are a lot wider, but aren't that much taller, so I hope it will fit.

arninetyes I did the same thing to my '95 gasser. My exhaust was less than 1" away from my spare tire and I didn't want to heat stress the tire and make it weak. I took some roof flashing, cut it to the just right shape and attached it somehow, I forget exactly how, it's been too long.
Bottom line guys, take measures to protect that spare if your big pipe gets too close.
It's very easily done by putting something between the pipe and the spare.

I've got a '01 F550 aside from trying to get over the Dana 135 axel I've got an aft mount fuel tank. There is no way I would be able to get a 5" exhaust back there. The truck is also about 4" longer than your standard crew cab and while most exhaust kits allow for some play it can be a real PITA. Alot of things with these trucks require you to get a little creative. A good thing for me Kwikordead has the same truck as me and I've found him to be really creative.

In case anyone is interested. NAPA also carries some cool exhaust clamps that will allow you to butt the pipes together instead of havin to have I.D./O.D pipe connections.
