Have A 95 F350 SRW 351W AOD trans. I am getting a wild vibration at 45 to 65 mph. Guy at the parts store recommended a tranny service, its been 32K since it was serviced so I went with it. It did slightly smooth the vibes out some but didn't eliminate them. I was thinking U-joint (rear), doesn't have a carrier bearing, but when you put the truck into gear everything is smooth. Any ides??
No, the speedo is fine. I had the tires balanced today, no help. The vibe stops when you let off the gas or put it in neutral at any speed you feel it vibrating.
This all started about 2 months ago with some sort of squeak from the underside of the truck. It sounded like the drive shaft was rubbing a heat shield when you accelerated. I looked but found no metal contact. Has original U-Joints so couldn't grease them. I sprayed WD40 around the joints and after about 30 miles it decreased the squeak, then the vibrations became worse. I can get it to ocassionally make the clunk sound when going into reverse, but can't really say I see movement when I move it back and forth.
The rear U-joint solved the problem. It still looked really good on the outside, but after pulling one of the caps, WOW!!. One end was just dust. I guess that was the initial squeak. Anyway all is well, thanks for the feed back guys!!
