it's on the underneath side of one of the intake runners. you'd have to have the intake off and use a mirror, make a "print" with a piece of paper, or pull the head. there are also date codes cast into the head, maybe in the valve spring area?
yes i saw the date codes but no casting number. If you pull the head will the casting numbers be just right there or do you still need a mirror? Want to rebuild the motor and put it in a drag car but i haven't done anything to it yet. All i know is block is D0AE-J and the crank is 2 bolt but has the option to change it to the 4 bolt caps. block casting number says its a 71.
Can you tell me if a 351M/429/or 460 distributor will work in a 351C? when i looked up parts at jegs said for 351C, 351M, 429, 460 for distributor. If so i'm gonna put a 351M distributor with electronic ignition instead of buying a aftermarket distributor.
also what other parts interchange off top of your head?
on the fly wheel is it balanced the same as a small block ford? 302/351W? I know some V8 engines are balanced different that require a flywheel for that specific engine.
if you have the head off you don't need a mirror, they are right there.
the distributor listing is correct but obviously a dizzy for a 351M will need to be tuned for performance.
Cleveland flywheels/flexplates and balancers are 28oz, same as 351W's and early(pre 82?) 302's. watch your tooth count, C4 uses 157 and 164 tooth flys depending on the bellhousing. engine plates are different for each also.

sure it's a good system, at least one version of the controller module(brain box) has spark retard during start that you'd have to pay extra for a separate box with MSD. available at junk yards everywhere! i just don't care for the brain box mounted the way they do stock, it can be hidden in the fender or wherever. they can be heat sensitive so some spacers to lift the box off the mount surface can help provide some air flow for cooling. they do overheat from time to time so it's not a rediculous idea to carry an extra, even have it mounted side by side like a race car. any ignition sytem is susceptible to fail sometime, question is how much trouble are you going to let it cause you?
BTW, dual points are a royal PITA. their hayday was short lived and are only effective at RPM levels above where a single point sytem breaks up. ignition parts burn up much faster with point systems, with electronic systems plugs, caps, rotors and wires last many times longer and deliver a more consistant reliable hotter spark.
