Exhaust poll

Well I installed all 6 Auto Meter gauges a few days ago=o) They all work perfect.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Next is the exhaust still dont know if I should get a Flowmaster 70 or the Gibson?
Dont know if I should stick with the single tailpipe or go with duals?
What I want is a little exhaust tone and maybe quicker starts, I know its not going to sound like an V8. Also I wont lose any MPG's will I?
I was thinking about keeping my tailpipe and just replace the muffler.
Or should I just get a cat-back kit?
Any suggestions? thanks again ~Gage~

Actually, there's another thread ongoing right now where a fellow put in a Flowmaster and lost 2mpg. Took it out and got it back. Someone else confirmed having done the same thing. Has a lengthy discussion from FredVon4 about back pressure changes (even reductions) not necessarily being good.

In fact, you can get this guy's Flowmaster for cheap! Only used for a couple of weeks I think. Search on Flowmaster or look for exhaust threads as I recall.....

leave it alone .1st off.the muffler case has the hanger for the system welded to it. and thats right at a bend for the tail pipe. no room for a cut and clamp job.
2nd if you do any thing have a custom system done and don't hurt the stock system in any form or matter. as you just may want to put it back on.

Gagae...listen to Charlie...he has the most experience and testing done with all his mods... one pretty quick 2005 3v V10... to get any more grunt you must re-do the ENTIRE system to a well designed and expensive true dual balanced method...

Sure you can bolt in a different muffler can to change the note or tone... and there is not enough information from any of us about if a FM40 or Gidson dual chamber are better or worse... problem being one mans good sounds and rumble sounds like crap to another.... I even know one fellow who plasma cut the end off the factory can and had the insides "opened" up... don't sound too bad to my old artillery and helicopter damaged ears but the down shift deceleration is way too raspy, tinny and sounds horrid to me. But the drive away up shifting acceleration sounds good and deep... and that is the real problem with most bolt on mufflers, resonators and tips... all of them have some area where they sound good to great BUT they all have a nasty side some where in the rpm range...

I know this advice don't answer the question...If FM is your brand of choice start with the 50 and see if the 40 or 70 may move the sound where it will be what you are looking for.

Me... I like the 95% of the time quiet... and I think on those rare days when I get a 5200RPM first to second shift the sound is just right for the looser to hear my decent 3 yard chirp of the rear tires

fred
i've had 40's, 50's and the 70 thats what hanging right now. the other vibrate the inside like you would not beleive.
gauge
if you do anything get the stock off in 1 peice and store it. as you are going to be playing muffler games. and you are going to loose mpgs like the truth or not it's my personal hard earned fact. and i lost the least with the 70. so at idle it's mellow open that baby up and watch heads turn.
and yes fred is correct about true duals. and big mufflers . only a big word of warning when you cut that pipe off the cats to make true dauls. your own your own they cost $1700.00 msrp for the set and welded x pipe.
if you want to play come off the collector extension. and just hang a few different types till you get what you want or close to it. DON'T CUT ANY THING OFF!
