Trouble Identifying an engine

The first two ID #'s are C2 It appears to be a 351 C but it has a small block bell housing. The heads seem to be cleveland's though. Possibly boss motor?

a 351C is a small block motor uses same bellhousing as 289, 302, 351W.

What is the block casting number?

so a 351 cleveland would is a small block with 351m-400 heads? I have no way of putting a picture up but I will try to get the #'s. Dont really deal with cleveland motors but am interested in this one. It also has weird motor mount bolt patterns.

as far as I know, the bellhousing's are different than a 302...the cleveland is supposed to be the same block as a 400? I think, and there aint no way to bolt a 302 bellhousing to my 400 that I can see.....if it's a boss 302, it is a 302 block with cleveland heads....

well all 351C is small block. a 351M/400 is a big block. The heads on a 351m/400 has 2.04 intake valves and 1.66 exhaust. where on a standard 351C 2v has same valves. However the 351C 4V has a whopping 2.19/1.71 valves. So if the cleveland motor is a 4V GET IT.

A 351C is a small block and will not bnolt up to a 351M bellhousing. However a 302 bellhousing will bolt right up to a 351C. same bolt pattern same size. 289, 302, 351W, 351C all have same bellhouse.

351M/400, 400, 429, 460 all have same size bellhousing but a 351M fly wheel is balanced diffrent than a 429 or 460 so the flywheel will not work off a 351M on a 429.

oh ok....I thought the 351c and 351m and 400 was the same block.....I'm new to the 400 and trying to learn as I go....

Im still learning on the 335 series engines also. I do know however the 351C is small block because i have one. The also got 4 bolt main holes in the block so you can use 4 bolt main caps on the crank.

351 vs 351W
http://www.fordcobraengines.com/351c%20Differences.htm

In the interest of promoting harmony and civil discourse in this forum it has been decided that there are a couple of guidelines that all posters to this forum should follow:

2. Avoid speculation on whether the 351M/400 is a "big block" or "small block". These are generic terms which generally apply to Ch*vy motors not our beloved blue oval mills so they really have no place in this group. The 351M/400 has elements relating to both the 385 series and the Windsor series and attempting to categorize them is futile, especially when using monikers which FoMoCo never adopted.

T.I.A. for your cooperation.
