Alternator

Will it keep the engine from starting?
NO.
**************************************
I tried to jump mine, but the only way to start it is if I jump it at the starter...
Try Hooking it up to the Battery side of solenoid and try again.
*******************************
If I un-hook it it goes dead again...
From where Exactly do you un-hook from?
*********************************************
would a super dead battery do this as well?
It depends.
See what happens with trying to start & run it with the booster cable
on the battery side of the solenoid first.

It has Been a few weeks since I started it

Anyway, All I know Den, is that my son came back inside and said they tried to jump start as anyone would (battery to battery), but would only click... they tried attaching the jumper cable to the starter (pos) and she would start but soon as they disconnecetd her she would die. My son felt that was a sign that tne alternator was shot along with the battery. I was wondering if this was some way of checking the alternator to see if the is right or not.. I'm think it's a super cold and dead battery that maybe it needs a full charge...what do you think?
We still need to find out if the engine will start & stay running with the Booster Cable clipped to the Battery side of the Starter Solenoid *By-passing the Battery cable*.
The ignition needs at least 8 volts to power it.
So,Once the engine is running for about 20 minutes at a high idle <>
Then ,Remove the booster cable and see if the engine stays running.
If the engine won't stay running the Battery is probably toast.

Booster Cable clipped to the Battery side of the Starter Solenoid *By-passing the Battery cable*.
Isn't there just the the single wire running to the starter?
"Battery side of the Starter Solenoid ".... don't understand that phrase

The ignition needs at least 8 volts to power it.
This could be the problem, since it's so cold outside and the battery has been with-out juice for so long they mihht not have allowed it to "charge" long enoghh..I'll let it sit or chrage the battery first and try again..

Thanks Dennis
The starter cable runs from the Starter side of the solenoid.
This way it is direct contact ,> and then try starting with the key.
I'm trying to establish if the battery cable is at fault.

It was hooked right to the starter where the pos cable is attached to the starter...I'm thinking the battery is so dead it won't keep things running..
