My 2004 Ranger with 4.0 and 5 speed runs great but has an aggrevating quirk. After warm up, and rolling at any speed above a dead stop, the engine will not return to its normal 700 RPM idle. In some cases, the idle is as high as 2000. Is this another emissions related computer issue that I can't do anything about, or is there something wrong.
I agree with Ken, make it the Dealers problem. Seeing as how it's still under a warranty you've paid big bucks for I'd make good use of it.
If you just want to have some idea what may be wrong, before you take it in, you might run it by your favorite autoparts store & have them scan the computer for any stored trouble codes, but DON'T let them erase any found, just read & record the code numbers.
Then you can look them up, or post them here & we'll give you our best take on it, before you go for service.
Kinda sounds like you might have a IAC problem, which isn't uncommon, but without some code clues it's just a guess.
