Considering buying...
He is concerned about gas mileage and reliability above all else. Will the new 2006 F150 provide this? What gas mileage can he expect? How many little issues can he expect? He also appreciates a smooth ride, will the Ford provide this?
He currently has a 2000 Chevy Silverado, with the 4.8L V8. When it was new, it got 20mpg on the highway (all time max was 23mpg on a trip to Mississippi). Then they (GM) did an "emissions recall" and that number dropped to 17mpg highway, max, and also affected drivability when cold. In-town mileage also took a giant nosedive. It has also has a mild piston slap issue when cold since new. I think a recent issue with the turn signal kind of put him over the edge. Ford doesn't pull that kind of thing, re-flashing the computer and ruining mileage, do they?
Will he be disappointed?
FWIW, I really like my new F150 SuperCrew depending on speed 20 mpg at 55mph is not out of the realm of possiblilties with a 5.4L and 3.73's. Most see a high of around 18 mpg. There's just too many varibles to say what mpg you'll really see. IMO the EPA estimates are fairly close.
Not really any pressing issues per say, most have been ironed out by now.
As far as ride goes, words can't describe. You'll have to ride in one for your self.
FWIW the new '06 F150 Super crews are available with a 6.5' box, or the standard 5.5' box if he's thinking about the crew cab route. I'd also reccomend the 5.4L and a 3.73 gear ratio....might want to think about the payload pkg. if he's into travel trailers and such.

He does plan on getting the trailer tow package so he gets the hitch and wiring harness.
Feel free to share the contest with your friends.
Thank You

My '04 Supercrew 5.4L 4x4 with 3.73's gets better mpg than my previous '02 Supercrew I used to have with a 5.4L 4x4 and 3.55's....Not to mention it can tow alot more too!
If he goes with 3.73's he'll be able to up grade to a bigger boat if he needs too.
Here's a link to the 2006 F150 specs if you haven't already seen them.

I have a 2005 SuperCrew, Purchased New Last November...It has the 4.6L, I did get the 3.73LS, and the 5.5 foot box...It will hold anything I put in it, as long as I keep the tool box off of it...I can get about 19MPG highway, and it has plenty of power for me...it tows 6800LBS, which some consider a little weak, but thats more than most camper trailers (No, never towed one with it)...I had a 1995 F150 SuperCab and this truck is definitely better....Handling, Suspension, Ride Quality...I've had a couple of rattles (Bad EGR and a Loose Brake Line) but this truck has been awesome in the four months I have owned it...it has 6800 miles on it now...
One thing I do recommend...try to avoid Continental Tires...See if your dealer can change them out for you...thats been my only complant...they spin too easily...
