How hard would it be to change a 71 F-250 2wd to a 4x4? Is it even possible, assuming I have a donor truck to work with. This 71 I found is immaculate (for a northern Missouri truck). BTW, it has a 360 and a 4spd, if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.
to make it look good find you a 76 higboy and put you body on it and it will look factory but if you want the better power streeing go to a 78 79 f-250 it is a hassle to change one to 4x4 with all the extra parts you need to do this it would be easier to do a body swap
Digger, it is very possible. But it is a bunch of work. Swapping your body and engine to an already 4wd frame & running gear might well be easier. And if you have a 'donor' truck...how about making sure the 4wd gear is all up to snuff and ready to go while you enjoy driving around in the 2wd truck as it is now....have you read Steve Best's website ? He has a lot of detail on the 2wd to 4wd swaps....DF
Im with dinosaurfan, make sure your donor is in good working order before you go thru all the work of swapping the bodies and the likes. I swapped a 72body and 390 on to a 78 1/2 ton 4x4 chasis. The only problem was that the 78 chasis wasnt in as good a shape as promised. So far ive gone thru the transmission and the rear end. This would have been alot easier before the new body was installed.
I also agree that you should find a 78 or 79 to swap to, the steering setups are much better.
