Biodiesel bus that is. I hadn't made a batch since before Christmas and now I'll likely be doing about 1 batch per week. Got this weeks batch done and hoping to have it ready some time today. If the guys stil got it, I'm going to pick up a 100 gallon slip tank next week so I don't have to hit the pumps for a looooooooong time!
I wish my Explorer was diesel so I could take advantage of the homebrew option. What did it cost you to set yourself up to make the stuff? The SpikeTV show Trucks featured a DIY diesel making system. If I remember correctly it was $800US.
I got the idea from the diesel forum on FTE. From there I went to journeytoforever.org. I found plans for the 'appleseed' processor. $50-60 later, I had it built. I don't have an exact $/liter, but not counting the additional hydro, I'm looking at around $0.35/l. How's that strike you? I must admit, the way I have it set up now is a mess. Gotta go back to the dump to pick up a larger vessel. That will help because then I won't have to shovel the barrels, I can just lift and dump with my tractor.
As for where I get it, I get mine from the Wendy's in Brandon. Just go to any resturant that has friers and tell them you'll take it for free. They are paying to dispose of it now. I guarantee it. Wendy's supplies about 1 barrel/week. I'm not quite keeping up right now, but I'm working on it.
This would be one good way to cut my expenses in the Louisville trucks...At about 8 miles per gallon...Wonder how long it would take for the tax department to catch up with me?
It's just most engines can't run it full strength. In cold weather you also have to have it warm. Most guys start their truck on diesel and once it's warmed up switch over the biodiesel tank.
Yikes gas went up to $1.06 today. An 8 cent increase. I think more people are going to turn back to the horse and buggy days soon.
Going tomorrow to the wrecker to get a replacement intake since mine is cracked. That should help the vacuum and increase the gas better.

I haven't had any big guys or dogs following me yet. Although, there's been a lot of coyote activity around my yard at night!
The only engines that I've heard anything negative about in regards to running bio is the duramax. On the bio forums, there are basically every diesel engine included with many of these guys having used for many years and miles.
The cold weather thing is bang on. I just picked up a 100 gal slip tank this week and have yet to put heating coils in it. That is my way around that one. heated tank, heated line. At ambient temps now it's still a little cloudy right now, but add a little heat and away you go. I can notice the difference right now between morning afternoon and evening as to how well it works in the truck. Soon it won't be a problem.
