I have a 76 360, bored .040 with a mild cam thats supposed to be for torque(sorry, don't know any lift numbers). It has a 4V intake, but I was running a 2V carb until recently. The Holley I sent to be built was too warped to seal up, so I must purchase a new carb. My mechanic (a bow tie man) swears by the Edelbrock carbs, but in this forum, I see most Ford builders prefer Holleys. The truck (66 F100) will only be used for cruising, no towing.
Which carb should I buy that would work best right out of the box?
I am using my header money, so it will have stock exhaust for the near future. Any help appreciated.
it's pretty much all personal preference when it comes right down to it.. holleys are a bit more performance oriented (read finicky), but the edelbrocks are a bolt it on and forget about it affair in my past experiences.. stay around 600 cfm and you'll be golden.
You sure can't beat the Holley 570 Street Avenger for your application they're wet flow checked / tested and work great right out of the box. Holley and dirt don't get along so be sure to have a inline fuel filter. No metering rods to wear or replace in Holley vs Edelbrock carbs but then again I have run one Holley over 650K miles without any problems. You should of chimed in back in December as I threw away 17 carbs, only 3 were Holley.

If you go with a holley it would be a good idea to check in summit, they sell a little insert that is supposed to save your powervalve in the event of a backfire.
That power valve protector has been around about 10 years.
Be sure if you get a Holley for Ford that has kick down linkage if your running auto trans as well order one with electric choke. After the choke, fast idle and idle mix are set you'll be surprised how well mannered your motor will run.
