first: i'd like to just say hi, "HI"
second: I picked up a 69 3/4ton camper special and i've ever so slowly been working on it. Being that i'm a poor college student and I don't come a wealthy family I'm always trying to strectch my dollar on the work i put into the vehicle.
I've been noticing a clicking when i turn the steering wheel (manual steering) and i'm guessing its the bearings in the column(most likly?) or the gear box. what i'd like to know is,
1. is it rather easy to replace the bearings myself
if so, does anyone know of some online paper for this?
2. should i buy a rebuilt column?
Does the clicking sound seem to be coming from the top of the column (right behind the wheel) or deeper down? If it's high up in the column, it might just be some plastic from the turn signal cam. If it's lower, I'd check out the fiber ring between the column and the gearbox. I don't think that you would be getting a clicking sound from that ring, but check out its condition anyway.
