Have a 94 Ranger XLT, 2.3 Lit engine, manual transmission, 2wd with over 190k. For the past few months the engine has been cutting out. This happens when hot or cold, at idle, slow or high speeds. When pulling over shutting off the key and when going to restart, the check engine light does not come on and the vehicle wont start. After sitting for a few minutes or more the check enginge light will come on and the truck will start. Have had it in to the shop and they cannot find the problem or duplicate it. There is no eec codes and the fuel pressure is good.
Need some help on diagnosing the problem can anyone help.
If you have an ECM relay I would try swapping it with one of the others that are not vital to run the truck. If the problem goes away then it is the relay and you need another one. If not I would start by looking at your wiring. Is this truck is fuel injected? Can you verify fuel pressure when it will not start?

Okay, have you tried pulling codes yourself? Every now and then we hear of shops who legitimately don't know what they are doing, so grab your paperclip and Haynes manual and try again.
If you have done nothing to the truck that is detrimental, like pull out the thermostat, I would suggest getting the coils and ICM checked. When they are going bad, the heat affects them more often than not....when thye cool, things work okay for a while.
Otherwise, we are a stuck (or worse) than you are with guesses alone...
Are you saying you have spark during the time the CEL is OUT????? If so, as Bob suggested, it's not likely the computer power relay.
If you don't have spark during the time the CEL is out, I'd try the computer power relay swap pike_hunter suggested.
The CEL being out & it not starting, is a good clue, if we can just interpret it right.
If all that checks out & you have a fuel pump power relay, try swapping it for a like one, not needed to run the engine, say maybe the A/C power relay & see if the problem checks up.
