My E350 van is in need of new shocks. I use it to haul the family as well
as pull a 7000lb toy hauler. I would like to have a better ride when towing
without sacrificing non loaded ride. I was looking at the KYB, Bilstein, and
Ranchos. Rancho has the RS9000 which are adjustable. Should I be looking
at the adjustables to get the best of both worlds or would the KYBs or
Bilsteins still give me a better ride? Thanks for the advice in advance.
Not at all. I thought the van rode better with the KYBs. Loaded or unloaded. The Bilstiens give the vehicle a little tighter feel. But not necessarily harsher.
I use my van for towing and hauling all our camping equipment. I installed the Blistens and air bags in the rear. super easy to bolt on, relatively cheap, and now I can adjust my ride and my ride heigth.. empty or loaded. the air bags also helped with body roll and sway. best investment I have added to my van thus far, except for the full size bed I installed in the back.
I have the Bilstein's on my '90 Cabriolet Custom Hauler built on an E-350 chassis. The Bilsteins are great and handle the big dually van no problem while hauling my rally car on a trailer. I bought the van from a chassis engineer, and apparently he knew what he was doing when he installed the Bilsteins.
I also run Bilstein shocks on my pro rally car and have never had one fail, even though we put them through hell on stage.
