transmission help
So what happened? The truck won't downshift?
Since you powerwashed underneath the truck, might want to look at the MLPS (Manual lever position sensor, also known as "Nuetral safety switch" to most auto parts stores.) This sensor tells the computer what gear you are in, thus allowing the computer to adjust the line pressure in the transmission accordingly. Sounds to me like water may have gotten in the plug on top of the sensor, shorting things out. Most of the time, you will be crusing along, and then it's like someone puts the truck into nuetral.
The MLPS is located on the driver's side of the transmission, behind the shift linkage. It actually slides onto the shaft sticking out of the transmission. Pull the nut off the linkage arm, gently pry it off, and then remove the 2 8mm or 10mm bolts holding the MLPS to the transmission.
By the way, I wouldn't worry about the tranny going south on ya this early. I have a 95 and it died with 219,000 miles. In 1996 major updates were made, allowing for a much stronger transmission than ones used in previous years.
