I need some help, I just bought a 79 Bronco with a bad 400 I'm having trouble finding a replacement so any help would be appreciated.
How far can a 400 block be overbored?
What other motors can be bolted in its place?
Will the intake, distributor, exhaust fit any other motor?
429/460 have the same bell housing. They do not however just "bolt in" . Issues must be resolved with A/c comressor mount, exhaust manifold clearance, alternator clearance, motor mounts....these issues are on the full size trucks. There may be more or less with the Bronco but I am sure it could be done.
Above info is helpfull, I have all sorts of hipo stuff for the 400 but I don't know if it will fit a 429/460 ie. intake, headers, dizzy.
What other cars/ trucks came with 400m or 351m?
I guess I could resleeve the one bad cylinder but I'm kind of strapped for time.
53fatfndr is right, only the distributors are the same. the intakes and headers, etc are different. You can get a motor mount kit from the bronco graveyard to swap in a 429/460 and they do take the same bellhousing. Although you should be able to find a 400 in the junkyard in one of the 70's boat cars or if you're looking for a long block, I know that Gopher and Jasper both do remans. I have a Gopher reman in my truck and it has held up great.
