While I was changing my ICP sensor last Sunday, I pulled off the air cleaner hose to see how difficult the CCV mod would be to do. I shined a light on the turbo to check everything out, and was greeted by this sight! The previous owner had an Airaid filter box on it and a K&N style filter since it was new. Does it look like the turbo is dusted? I really don't know what the black splotches on the vane could be either. I put a Ford AIS on the truck right after I bought it, but that K&N had 62,000 miles to do it's damage. What do you guys think, is it time for a wicked wheel? I apologise for the crappy pic; I was trying to hurry since it was starting to rain...

From the picture, that wheel looks fine. We have seen some really bad ones where the leading edge of the fins are rough and worn razor thin as well as pieces missing. The wheel change is good idea especially if you are using a chip and towing.
That does not look bad. I'll be changing mine out this weekend it is with out a doubt dusted. I did put the kwik filter on it the other weekend and noticed that one of the clips to hold down the filter box cover was gone. It's probably been like this since before I bought it at the end of 04' with 52,000 miles on it. These guys are right mine has parts of the leading edge of the fins gone. One part of the fin started coming of and got caught between the housing and the rest of the fin. It put a good some scratches in the housing. It explains why it seemed to take longer for the turbo to spool up. If your wheel is dusted it's pretty easy to tell.

that means the inside of the engine has seen the exact same thing. so i would get your compression checked (or simply check crankcase pressure with a water manometer.

That's what I'm afraid of, but other than the turbo she's been running strong and smooth.
Yes, about 900 miles ago. It was doing it before the oil change, and I change it at 5,000 miles. I think you told me it might be the ICP sensor going bad, or the IPR valve is clogged/bad. I posted this problem about a month ago in this forum. Is the IPR valve very hard to get to? I have a feeling I'll be checking that next.
