If I order the TC lock kit, what rpm can it be locked in while empty and when can you lock in loaded heavy? I know most mods find other weak points, what will this one find? I am at 62000 miles now.
I lock mine (unloaded...screwin around) right after second gear engages. Now when I am towing a load, I will also lock it in 2nd but I let my foot off of the go pedal so there isn't a shock through the drivetrain. If you are cruising on city streets with a load I wouldn't bother unless there is a good stretch of 35-45 mph. Mostly used when getting on the highways and bi-ways.
If you are just messin around (no load), the accelleration is noticeably different - so is the shifting.

So after you lockup the T/C in second will it shift into third or do you have to unlock the T/C first?
It will still shift through the gears with the TC locked. Just be sure you don't forget it's locked before you come to a stop. Otherwise the truck will stall. Trust me. Don't ask how I know this.

i use the TC lockup switch to give me the feeling of driving a truck with a standard transmission. when im playing, as soon as it hits 2nd i lock it, i can anticipate the shift so i let off completely and then grab third gear and don't let out of it because the shift from 3 to OD isn't that harsh. its great fun and also gets you up to speed quick. also less wear on the transmission.

Less wear on the trans? That is one thing that I was not sure of. Sounds like a great mod I can use for work and play, but I did not want to shorten the trans. life doing it. Thanks for the info.
I would liken it to having the PSD hooked up to the catapult of an aircraft carrier.
Less wear meaning less heat. You are stopping the converter from slipping, or as I like to call it "frictionating".
I have a question for you guys who are a little heavier on the mods.
Has there ever been a concern for converter ballooning? These stock converters can probably handle the lockup for towing and what not, but for beating on the truck I may start to get concerned.
I don't understand how locking the converter up early would cause ballooning. I mean it locks up eventually at crusing speeds. Is it just the extra RPM of locking it up in 2nd ur concerned about?
