Does anyone tow their Jeep w/ an Excursion or equivalent with a Weight Distribution Hitch(WDH)? I am looking to get a 18' Carhualer and my Excursion Hitch says 5000 lbs w/out a WDH and 12,500 lbs w/ a WDH. My tow capacity on my truck is 9500 lb trailer. I am looking at the Equlaizer WDH.
If you are using an open trailer, you probably won't need weight distribution hitch. If you are using an enclosed trailer, it is much heavier and you probably would need it. The equalizer brand 4 point equalizer and anti-sway hitch is awesome.
I just ordered my trailer and the guy @ the trailer shop told me I didn't need a Weight Distribution hitch to pull my Jeep but all of my friends who tow thier Jeeps sware by them. I will be getting one. I have heard some horror stories of towing a Jeep on an 18' open carhauler. I think it's money well spent.
98EB, I can assume by your name that you have an Eddie Bauer Expedition. You will definately need the WDH. I had a 98 with the air ride, and everything a towed that had some weight to it made the truck feel like it was going side to side. The WDH hitch will help eliminate this.
You are correct I have a 98 Eddie Bauer Expedition. Thanks for your input I fully plan on the WDH. It just makes sense to me. I plan to do some fairly long distance towing with the Jeep on back. Most towing will be under 300 miles but thats still long enough distance to me to make it worth while. If I was doing short distance towing maybe but I may take it as far as Colorado in the next couple years.I can't wait to pick up my trailer. It should be here real soon.
