Drag races!!

Saturday there was a fun Ford race at the drag strip here in town. The overall event was kind of disappointing seems how they advertised a car show, swap meet, and drags. There were about 6 cars in the car show (all mustangs) and not much of a swap meet. The drags were fun but the best part...I got to take my fathers baby down the strip a few times at the end of the day. It was fun as all get out but an eye opener at the same time. Both my father and I were surprised at the numbers the truck put out. Top end was a max of only 82mph and a best time of 15.something. I don't remember the exact number. My reaction time wasn't worth beans with a best r/t of only .757 . Just in case you guys are wondering what kind of truck he has it is a 94 F-150 4x4 with a 351W. This list is as follows: Hedman Headers, MSD ignition, an FIPK, dual exhaust with FlowMasters. He had wanted to change the cam and have some head work done too but he would need to swap the induction to a mass air system and as of right now no company makes a mass air kit for his truck. Sure sounds good though but it's definately not a race vehicle. Great for towing and off road but not in a straight line. Have to admit...it does an awesome burn out at the staging area. One pass I made the damn thing smoked the tires all the way through the 1/8 before I let up. Impressive...but again, I wasn't happy with the numbers. Well...that was my Saturday. Just thought I would share.

That's not bad for a 4x4. A stock GEN 1 Lightning will run low 15's, and they're lighter.

Thumbs up

15 seconds in the quarter mile is pretty good for a truck, especially if you were having wheelspin problems.Tirespin will really kill your times.

You must've had your sights set pretty high... Those are respectable numbers in any event. And then you equate that it's a truck!

You're right Ryan, I did have my sights set high. I thought it would have at least done around 90-95mph in the quarter with a 15 sec range in time. But again, this was the first time I've actually drag raced (legally) on a track and like you guys said...it is a truck. Always room for improvement though.
Oh yeah...it is kind of embarrassing when some kid in a ragged out little honda beats you every time. I couldn't figure that one out to save my life. Unless he was spraying...

The MPH in a 1/4mi race is the indicator of the vehicles power, the ET is the driver.

My buddy's 94 cobra barely hit 95 mph in the 1/4 - it was a 14.5 time.

The thing with the truck is that acceleration between 65-95 is really slow - you're most of the way down the track before you reach these speeds.

15sec is nothing to cry about dude. My Seville would do 15.something and that car was kick@$$. Talk about burnouts lol. If my truck could do the 1/4mi in 15 I'd leave the window chalk on for a yr lol.

Just curious, does your dad's truck have a shift kit in the tranny? The E4OD's are really slow shifters. Just wondering. 15 seconds is something to be proud of, in a truck. Let us know what happens after some practice and a cam change.

No...the transmission if completely stock. The Hypertech chip he has in it is supposed to improve the shifting. I suppose 15.4 isn't a bad time for a 4x4.

No, 15.4 isn't bad at all. I'm surprised your not in the 16s.

FYI, reaction time doesn't add to the 1/4mi time. The 1/4mi time starts when you leave the line.

it ran in the 16's one time because of tire spin...the rest of the time it was in the mid to upper 15's.

Mid-high 15s for that truck is right where it should be. A good driver can probably get it in the lower 15s but you have no reason to be disappointed with that...if you are your expectations are too high.
