Lock cylinder
hey group I have a problem the lock cylinder broke in my truck ( 86 f-150 302 efi automatic 2wd) I bought the new lock and installed no the accuator rod does not travel far enough to start the truck. I can push it manually but then the steering wheel is still locked and can't move the shifter from park any ideas? ( its a tilit wheel too)

It does have alot of play do you know how I get it out from the top by were the steering wheel goes? I had it dissconected down at the ignition switch but don't know how to get it out

It is sort of a pain. You have to remove the steering wheel, the turn signal switch, and the tilt mechanism which moves up and down on two pins. The pins simply pull out...each one has a threaded hole in it...insert a screw and pull them out. I can't exactly remember everything in the process. The biggest problem I had was figuring out how to get those pins out.

You can go to the parts dept at your Ford dealer and they can give you a exploded view of your tilt column.I had the same thing happen to my tilt wheel in my F250 and had to take the tilt wheel completely apart to get the the actuator rod out.You can get the rod at the dealer for around $10.00 the hardest part was getting the spring back in after taking it apart.You will need to remove the column from the truck like we did.my book didn't cover how to fix it we went by the exploded view and taking our time.
