I have a 96 F150 and on a recent drive (today), the E Brake and ABS lights both came on and stayed on for the rest of the trip. I had stopped immediately after they came on to attempt to check things out and on restart they both came right back on. Anyone have any ideas what could cause such a problem.
Could be a bad iginition switch, maybe. My 93 F-150 has a worn out ignition key cylinder...only the worn out keys work, new copies won't turn it. The key sits in it in a funny angle too.
Anyway, every once in a while those two light come on and freak me out, but when I turn it off (and sometimes tap the housing) and put the key back in again, it clears up. Sooner or later I'll get it replaced...
I looked at the problem a little more today, and here is what I found. From what I can tell the fuse is just fine. I even tried replacing it and the problem is still there. When I start the truck both the Ebrake and ABS lights come on. Then the ABS light turns off like a normal startup, but the Ebrake light stays on even though the brake is not on. Then when the tires roll about 2ft the ABS light comes back on and is solid from then out. Any advice on what this could be?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Check the fluid level in the Master cylinder;p if low there is a float switch in MC that turns light on - could be stuck of failing. If ABS light stays on You may hav e codes stored. Get at least a Haynes manual and follow procedures to read codes and get definitions. Post back with results and someone will be able to help.
