I have a 1970 f 100 4x4 with a 240 6 and a 4 speed. Every Manual Transmission has a Low gear
I just bought a 1975 ford with a 352 or 360 or 390.the v8 is not the orignal motor.
It does say 65, 352 below the front of the drivers side head.
The man I bought it from thought it was a 360.
I need to know where the ID numbers on the engine are.
I also want to put this in my 1970 f100 4x4.
will it bolt to my 1970 4 speed trans?
thanks,
Jim

Hoss, typing with the caps on is considered shouting, and I don't like being hollered at, so STOP IT.
The FE will bolt to the same engine perches, but the tranny bells are different. If both are str. drv. swap the engine with bell attached to the tranny.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
GRANNY LOW <> This Wacky Term only means 1st gear, all Manuals have them
1st gear is commonly refered to as the Granny gear because you drive slow in it (like grannies do on Sunday).
A 240 engine. *sigh* You should be so lucky to have even that. My engine just died. (See my post "*sigh* Not a good day today." Rest in piece you wonderful engine that was so good to me.
JIM Sorry about shouting.I didnt realize that i was. The doner v8 truck has a 3 speed automatic trans in it. We,ll have to find a bellhousing for the 4 speed then.I didnt know that all the 4 speeds had the granny gear.Does that number 65 right above the 352 on the block mean that i have a 1965 motor?I put new main bearings and seals in the 240 last year.It doesnt leak oil but it does smoke some.I do want to pull heavy trailer with it.Would i be better off with rebuilding the 240 or putting in the v8?
A 65 FE 352,360,390,427, would be a C5 for 65 C5 =1965 C6=1966 Just gussin it would most likly be a 390 but the only way to tell forsure is to check bore + stroke.

This should be changed to read that sometimes the FE will bolt to the same engine perches. mine did not when I swapped from a 240 to a 360, it changed where the engine sat significantly enough that I needed to swap to the perches designed for a FE
JIM Thanks for the information and the picture.I think im gonna put the v8 in.I have them both in the pole barn but its so cold out there.I may wait till it warms up.If i have to change the engine perches i would have them in the doner truck.I will just have to find a bellhousing.
