Just installed by dp tuner and was wondering if everybody elses blows alot of black smoke. mine will blow it from 40hp all the way to 100hp. 80hp will also 1200 degrees quick. Other than that its really cool, did about a 60 yard burnout without really trying
by your temps being so high, you lead me to believe you have a stock exhaust or a stock sized exhaust? my chip doesnt smoke alot except on "fuel7" but my EGT's arent that high.
I have a 4 inch dynomax exhaust from the trans back, and the 6637mod. Just changed my fuel filter today, and the air cleaner ain't that old. Hits 25 pounds of boost easy.
Black smoke = wasted fuel and high EGTs. It may look cool, but just think of it as unused power pouring out of your tailpipe. My DP chip only has a slight haze on the 120 setting. Other than that, it's clean once the turbo lights up.
Oh, yeah. LOTS of thick, black smoke. Not so much on the lowest setting, then clouds of it on the middle and high settings along with skyrocketing EGTs - not to mention the black soot that quickly collected on my rear fender.
But not with the DP Tuner chip. That was what I got with the Edge Evo. In the DP 40hp mode, I don't notice any smoke. Even on the 120hp setting, I have to push it HARD from lower rpms to get smoke, and then it is wispy compared to the Edge clouds. If I let the boost come up higher in the 120 hp mode, there really isn't much smoke at all.
I imagine with the ATS housing and the 6.0L intercooler, there will be even less smoke.
Just remember - jtharvey is absolutely right - if you are pumping out black smoke, you are wasting fuel and pushing your EGT too high.
Also, if you are getting thick black smoke with a DP Tuner chip, something isn't right. I'd contact Jody and start working out what the problem is.
Miata? Naw, they're pretty harmless. More like the lowered Civics, mini-trucks, and other crap that have GIANT BOOMING STEREOS that drown out everything, even the melody of my singing diesel. For them, I TRY to puke a lot of smoke onto them (120hp mode, low rpms, LOTS of throttle). I have to admit, for that reason - and only that reason - I almost miss the Edge. It was sooooo good at it!
Just this weekend the family and I went to the big town to do some shopping. I was messing around a bit. This bozo in a rice racer was next to me on my right. He had his window down. I hammered it just right and filled his car with black smoke It was priceless and I bet I could never do it again. The timing was so right. I laughed so hard. Boy did I get some dirty looks when he caught up. I looked over and said I am bigger wanna see who can crush who........lol

I love the smoke. A few weeks ago I was next to a car full of high school kids in a loud ricer reving their engine at the stoplight. I threw mine in neutral and revved, the look on their face was absolute horror. Next I flipped to the 120 hp mode and when the light turned green I prayed for my chance. Perfect timing of the traffic ahead of us allowed me to get my tailpipe right in front of their window. Now keep in mind that not only was every window down, but also the sunroof was open. From low rpm's I gunned it and the lugging of the engine threw out a huge cloud all inside their car. Everyone in my truck riding with me got a huge kick out of it.
Next thing I know they pull up to the same place we were going. The kid driving the car saw me and said "We were just having fun revving the engine". My response was "So was I". Ahhh memories.
