I want to buy an exhaust sys for my truck next month, I was pretty much set on a 4" sys until I started reading all the posts about people going to 5" and loving it. My question is will going to 5" be too big for my truck, 01 CC,LWB,4x4,Evolution Tuner on 60HP setting,K&N cold air intake. I don't really plan on adding much more than exhaust. Also this is my DD with 107,00 miles on it I drive 50K+ miles a year and have 4yrs left to pay on it. So basically i'm more looking for better mpg averages w/some power gains.
4 inch will be plenty. 5 inch is just about braging and looks but there are 5 inch systems out there for about the same price as a 4 inch. its all up to you. i am very happy with my 4 inch mbrp
i agree with Justin. 5" for looks and sounds. 4" if you just want peformance and lower EGT's. Mark Romriell can hook you up with a 5" system and 6" tip for about $400 shipped. i wish i would have known about that when i bought my 4'' MBRP system for $450.

So you have a 4" but wish you had the 5"? That's what i'm worried about I always believed that bigger is better unless bigger results in my engine not running properly.
no, i wish i would have gotten a 4" dual system. at the time i would have rather spent $450 instead of $650. but now looking back, the coolness and sound plus looks of dual exhaust is worth it. i would LOVE a dual 5" system. i heard that codyjoe (FTE user) had a 6" as well as an obnoxious 7" exhaust in the works,as well as 5" dual exhaust.

Well I guess i'll stick with the 4" sys, I was thinking of getting the 4" turbo back stainless from Magnaflow. There's a guy on e-bay that sells it for under $400, sounds like a good deal?
No, I don't need it. The truck doesn't need it either. It is for sound and the sound is great. This is my DD work truck (and backup family wagon) and the engine works better than before; it has really smoothed out. That will happen with a 4" too. You'll find that each of us is happy with what we have and will recommend exactly that. It's really up to you and what you want to hear coming out of your truck.
Whatever you get, open up the intake too. Free up the turbo. Kwik Filter is the cheapest.
Why get a 5" exhaust? There is no performance advantage to it. Conversely, there is no performance DISadvantage, either. A 4" will get EGT plenty low enough for a lightly modded engine. A 4" will sound great.
In short, there is absolutely no defensible reason to get a 5" exhaust. None. But this isn't about need, it is about want.
So, why a 5"? The looks? Yup. The sound? You bet. Bragging rights? Why not?
Why are you modding your truck? Is it partly for looks? Sound? Bragging rights? If you answered 'yes' to 2 out of 3 of those questions, you too may be a candidate for a 5" cannon exhaust.
Okay. I have avoided the word "awesome" for years, ever since it was coopted by people who had deficient dictionary skills - but this time, I'll have to agree. "Awesome" it is!
On a 383 cid motor of mine with a 175 shot of nitrous I dyno tested with open headers and closed headers with the same results, 572 rwhp with open and 574 rwhp with closed. The rear wheel torque was about 5 lower with the open exhaust at 620 vs 624.7. The camaro had a custom 4" exhaust system if you are a math person you can calculate the cross section of 3.5", 4" and 5" pipe. In no way would a stock turbo'd diesel engine really NEED or benifit from a 5" over a 4" but I bet the 5" sounds deeper and probably like most people have said...comes with some "my pipes bigger then your pipe" stuff.
I will probably get 4" but who knows, the "gotta have the best" bug could bite me too
Guys, I've read so many of these posts about the 5" vs the 4" exhaust and every time I think I've made up my mind about going one way or the other I start to second guess myself.
I love dual exhaust. It just "looks" right to me. I've listened to Kwiks' 5" soundbites quite a few times and it makes me want the 5", until I see a truck with duals and then it's back to duals, etc.
If I could get the nasty deep snarl of a 5" single out of a set of 4" duals I'd be as happy as a pig in poop.
Those who've switched from 4 to 5 or vice versa, what if any difference did you notice in the sound between the two?
I love the turbo whistle and if all else is equal performance wise I'll go with whichever system allows and or amplifies that whistle.
