File this one in the strange but true. I've been thinking that I should take the advice of nearly everyone on the forum about getting a spare CPS to stick in my glove box. Knowing that summer is just around the corner and I'll be on the road a LOT I decided to go ahead and get the CPS figuring that once I had a spare I'd probably never need it. Well....as luck would have it....it's snowing like crazy here today and the truck keeps dying every time I try to pull out of the drive. It re-starts each time but keeps dying again. Hmmmm, what have I learned as a member of FTE?........That's right, it's the CPS! Grab the new CPS and the tools and 15 minutes later, the ol' girl is purring like a kitten again. Now what are the odds that I would have just received the part a week ago and already had it handy when it went out? Don't know, don't care but I'm sure happy that it worked out so well. Thanks to all of you that have given such easy to follow directions, tool lists, etc. Could have been a crappy day but it turned out golden!
now you jsut gotta buy another so when that one fails. and don't be optimistic that it won't give up the ghost next week!
glad you had one handy. mines been in the glove box for a couple months but haven't needed it. thanks goodness (maybe i should put the 10mm and ratchet in there too just in case> what good is a sensor if i can't change it!)
""""""""""""" whats the hold up? i gave that to you years ago...
I know, I know.....Still trying to coordinate weather, equipment and an extra set of hands. Haven't been able to get everything to come together yet. Had a little problem getting the rest of the dp too but finally got it worked out. Now if it would just quit snowing and my buddies would quit becoming fathers we could take care of that!

Dang it!!! I hope you didn't just jinx me!! I bought my spare 2 weeks ago!!!! Yup, they sure gave me good advice too!!!
I know this has probably been talked about but I didn't see it. I also didn't go real deep into forum looking either. What do the following goodies do for your truck? shimmed regulator, AIC, and GP saver I know what the AIC stands for Auxiliary Idle Control, and GP saver, glow plug saver, but what do each do? Also the shimmed regulator, what do it do?

aic= can be used for high idle and pto things.
glow plug saver= de activates glowplugs on the 96 and older trucks where they come on no matter how warm eot is. it keeps em from only coming on when necessary. the 97's this is into the prgramming of the pcm.
shimmed fpr is putting a bb in the fpr to increase fuel presuure. most trucks are around the 60's . placing a bb in there brings it closer to 75 psi which is optimum.

1997 what about the '95 psd? as far as the gp saver, does it too come on. I find that the '95 psd dont get mentioned some times but they do have the OBDll computer and act like the '96 & '97s. as far as the bb could you direct me or send me the info on how to do that mod if I can on my '95 PSD
ok on the drivers side of your fuel filter is the fpr. there is a big brass nut. remove that carefully place rag underneath so you dont drop anything. there is a long spring. take that out. look inside there is a spool. put the bb inside the spool and put it back in. put spring back in and then put the brass plug back in. i hope i am not missing anything. been a while since i did it. let me find quadzillas webshot photo album he has a pic of it. check out his truck while your in there. its the cleanest obs i have seen to date. i wish he had more time to help out around here also. he is a great guy. he used to post a lot but moved and doesnt have the time anymore i guess.
This thread is CURSED!!!! I read it last nite, and low and behold the '96 studdered on my twice today, then finaly died 2 miles from home. atleast it waited till the end of the 60 mile work day run around.
But the light at the end is I just tonite bought a new CPS off Ebay, $65 shipped to my door.
This forum saved me in 2002 regarding the CPS...I had no clue. 95 PSD 4wd started cutting out, took it to local ford dealership twice and they could not figure it out. Completely intermitent, searched all over the internet with no luck...a few panicking moments on the 405 by the 101 in southern cal. (anyone knows how HORRIBLE that section is from this neck of the woods). Anyway, came across this website while in an economics class at the anderson school and some folks (can't recall their screen name any longer) answered my plea for help telling me exactly where to find the CPS, how to change it, etc. ("one or two beer job" is what I was told)
I have an extra in the glove box. This sight has ALL the answers!
well i am now ready if mine give it up since i finally bought a couple of sockets to throw in the glove box with my spare. but i still hope the curse passes over me!!!
