I was wondering if any of you Mid Fifty owners that have a Shop Manual if you could scan me the page that shows how to change the passenger Door Lock. I will be ordering my own Shop Manual soon but I was wanting to get this knocked out ASAP so I don't have ANOTHER incident with unknown people getting in the truck and causing OTHER issues... If you've got time I would appreciate it!
I was hoping it would be like the Late 40s F1 where there is just a simple allen screw that you undo to get it out.. I want to make sure that I have to take the skin off the door before I result to such things.
Thanks!
I can't help directly, but I'd be real surprised if you had to pull the skin just to change the cylinder. Until you get a proper response, check your catalogs, or an on-line one, to see if they have any parts diagrams that show a clip or set-screw.
Edit: I went to Mac's and he lists a door lock cylinder clip for '53 - 56, P/N B5A-7022023-A
$5 apiece!!! must be "special"

If you're referring to the keyed lock on the passenger door, there is a flat spring type clip you remove. It is located behind the rubber weathersrip at the lip edge of the door. You just pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers and the lock can then be removed.
LEckart, thanks. I looked there before but I couldnt see it because the PO applied the weather stripping with a yellowish epoxy and wasn't very "clean" about it.. I'm gonna have fun trying to pull it out. :P
OK... Got the epoxy off, got the clip loose.. but it WONT COME OUT! I better not need the key to do it.. because if I had the key.. I WOULDNT BE REPLACING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
It is probably just being stubborn. The clip is "U" shaped and slides into a groove on each side of the lock assembly. Might be some rust build up. You might squirt some penetrating oil onto the lock assembly from the inside. Take the inspection panel off the door, roll the window all the way up and with a flashlight look at the lock to see what it looks like and if anything else might be holding it. You never know what a PO has done. Also try taking a small block of wood (3/4"x1 1/2"x4"), position it next to the clip on the door edge, grab the clip with the needlenose pliers and use the wood block as a leverage point to pry the clip out. It should come out without too much difficultly. If you can drive the truck most locksmiths can make a key without taking the lock out. They will come to your location also but that will cost extra. Just a thought.
(By the way, that is probably not epoxy, just yellow weatherstrip adhesive as it comes in yellow and black)
Pull the clip all the way out of the door and the lock should just fall out, I use a stiff paint scraper to pry the clip out with. LEckart is right it would take any decent locksmith all of about 5 minutes to make a new key for the lock without removing it from the door. (Scary thought huh?)
