I am considering the purchase of a leveling kit for my 02 f-250 supercrew 4x4. I'm running 285 BFG's and would like a little more clearance and a little better look, I've got a brush guard on the front that seems to be bringing it down a little. I've been looking at the product skyjacker offers, they also offer a 2" lift for the rear. Any help, comments, or suggestions would be appreciated.
I know what you mean 02bigrig. My front leafs are looking awfully tired these days and I've got nothing extra up front. Kind of odd in a HD truck don't you think? Especially a 4x4.
I would suggest a DR mini-spring pack, or something similar. This will give you the lift you are looking for without a harsh ride or the need for longer shocks. You can also make you own mini-spring pack pretty cheap using steel plates, longer u-bolts, and center bolts.
I have a f350sd with snow plow. I wanted first off just to level the front out because of the extra spring in the rear, I was going to order a kit and do it myself until I called a local spring shop. They added another heavy spring on each side labor and parts in and out in about 1 1/2 hrs for $ 260.00. That was well worth it to me not to have the hassle of all that for what they charged . Plowed this winter and when lifting a 8' Fisher plow the front hardly even dropped. Very pleased with the job and how it made the truck look.
I just put a Tuff Country 1.5 add-a-leaf on the front of my F350. I was also worried about ride quality with adding a spring, but a friend of mine who is a long time front end mecahinic said I would be happy with it, so I bought one and installed it myself in about 3 hours. It raised the front just over 1.5" and ride is exceptional. Allowed me to fit 315's under the front with no rubbing issues. The kit ran me just under $100 and came with everthing needed to install.
i have a Rough Country leveling kit. it is a high quality kit with complete new leaf packs that have 5 new thinner leaves, that make a more progressive and smoother ride. it also contained new shocks. i have some after and before pics, if anyone wants them.
If you want something that lasts - I'd spend the money for new springs even for a 2" leveling lift! I put add-a-leaves on my truck about... a year ago I think - and now the weak stock springs have sagged out and the added leaf is not enough - I'm sagged back down to stock height (if not lower) and it really rides like crap now. I'm gonna be getting a kit with new front springs soon.
So where did you get yours from? I didn't really get around to checking out prices on any of the kits yet from anywhere - just saw that lift on E-Bay and they seem to sell like hot-cakes. Did you need anything else other than what came with the kit?? My wife is gonna kill me if I spend $300+ on a lift and then have to buy more stuff to make it work right.....
That picture is exactly what I was trying to avoid with the add-a-leafs - I put mine on with the stock springs still on the truck. I have a bunch of wiring for my running lights that I am gonna have to cut, and re-wire, to be able to pull the front bumper off. O well - drop the hammer right!!
you might as well run them all into one and then add a connection such as a weatherproof plug. you need to remove the bumper to get to the front spring bolt. its a 'biggun too. i believe 24 or 26 mm? i got mine from ebay also, i think the seller is topguncustomz

Yea I was already figuring on re-doing my wiring with some plugs - I did that wiring a long time ago and wasn't smart enough to figure out that I MAY just want to remove the bumper some day!
strokin, that is who i purchased my add-a-leafs from also. Great prices on lift kits! Will I have to pull my front bumper to install the add-a-leafs? I am still not clear on the installation process. I posted a thread last week on the subject, got 5 or 6 hits here, then it got moved to another section where it hasn't recieved one hit since moving!

Foxracer - I put my add-a-leaves on without pulling the stock springs, or the bumper.
I supported the truck, from the frame, with jack stands
I used 2 pump jacks - one on each side of the axle.
I did one side at a time - so I didn't risk the axle pivoting on me (i was by myself) and not being able to get it back - just left the U-bolts loosely fastened on the opposite side I was working on.
I dropped the axle down as far as the brake lines would let it go, took the stock center bolt out of the stock spring pack, put the add-a-leaf into place - and used big c-clamps to get the springs together close enough to get the new center bolt started, and draw up the center bolt to tight.
Put the u-bolts on loose, and repeat above step on the other side.....

Hope that helps
Ditto to this. I installed my add-a-leaf without removing the springs. One jack under the axle and one jack under the frame. I did it all with hand tools(no air compressor at home) and both sides took about 3 hours total. Didn't raise the front too much, sets about 1" lower than rear now and the ride is way better that I expeceted.
