Hey guys-
OK well, I have a question that would seem to be easy enough. I have a pretty nice ( I think anyway) 69` F-250. Its got a good size engine- rebuilt 360, overbored, headers, intake, carb- all good and new, same with the tranny. Well, its a 3-sp auto. and I am having some trouble- I wanna roast em! I am turning 295/50/16s all around, but I cant roast em! I need to lay a patch down to show up some Chevies at my school- a 66` Malibu driven by my friend layed down a sweet patch today, but I couldnt. Any tricks, ideas? Help a fellow FE FOrd out!
(check out my website for full engine specs- what can I add to make burn outs a charm?)

Tristin, The F250 is tooo darn heavy for what you want. One of the rear brake drums on your truck will weigh more than your buds axle. You can add a shift kit to the C6 that might help, but you are still dealing with old iron.
Now you can haul your buds car all week and it wont increase you gas milage at all, but he will outshine you laying rubber, because he is at least half or more less in weight.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
You might want to try a higher stall speed torque converter and lower rear gears, although you probably have 3.73's in your 250. With no load in the bed, I can light my tires for as long as I want in my 250.
Is there some driving technique involved here? What's the best way to launch an automatic? Are you supposed to hold your foot on the brake and build up revs and then release the brake and mash the gas or would that just ROAST your trany?
>Shame on you for beating on that sweet old truck. Buy a
>Ch%$# and set fire to it in the parkinglot, that will
>impress your friends!
>William in Atlanta
HAHAH I would enjoy that but I dont know about the school officials- I might get in a tad bit of trouble. I was sort of thinking that my truck was just to heavy to roast em- that and the combination of the big ole 295s. I know of guys with automatics holding the brake down and reving it up, or reving it in neautral then sliding it into drive. I havent tried either of these because I dont wanna bash on my truck- anyone know the negative side to these techniques or are they safe? And as far as the Chevies laying down the rubber, as far as looks I beat em all- and for speed? Well, when that race happens I'll be sure to post. Thanks
Tristin
I agree with William in Atlanta,I had a 72 f250 4x2 with a stock 360 c6 and 2bbl carb it had 12.50 16.5 highway tires bias ply and i never had a problem roasting the tires , so posibly your tires are to agreessive ,or bite in to much.
If you look at the pictures on my website, you'll see how good my big ole rubbers look! They really do make for a nice ride too though, plenty of rubber always in contact with the road for a fairly smooth ride in my mind anyway. I guess I will have to wait on the smoke shows for now it would seem, unless those other rumors prove to be safe?

Or get a 4-speed manual, My doggin' 360 with a blown head gasket
lays rubber no prob,I jes stomp on it in 2nd, and that 250 4x4
is the dog out of all my vehicles. auto's break if ya treat'em
like a manual...dumping clutchs at 5000rpm etc.
Do not do N drops or the thing with your foot on the brake. The last one can cook your transmission from excessive heat. Good bye torque converter and clutches!
If you really have to burn rubber set the emergency brake. Your truck has enough torque to overcome the brakes on at least one side, but, might roast the shoes.
You want to laugh, laugh when your truck runs all the time and costs nothing to keep up. Or when your girlfriend can ... take a nap ... on the front seat :-)
The reason you are driving the truck now is someone took good care of it before you. My truck has a straight frame and I keep telling myself, when I feel like dropping the clutch on a Honda with coffee cans for mufflers, that the only reason it got to be 32 years old is noone beat it to death or rearended something because the 4 wheel drum brakes faded.
If I do not do something stupid to my Ford and minus bad luck, my truck just might be around 20 years from now, even if I am not driving it.
> Are you supposed to hold your foot on the brake and build up

You hold the brake tight, press the gas lightly to build pressure in the torque converter, then push the gas pedal down all the way, while letting the brake go just before the car stalls out. Almost like you would a clutch.
If you reall really wanna lite 'em up, here is what you do. Go to the closest junkyard. Buy 2 15" steel wheels 7" wide. Then go to the closest tire shop, one that sells used tires, and buy some really beat up nasty looking tires with barely enough tread to be resold. Have the tires mounted on the cheapo rims. Slap them on your truck. And burn more rubber than your friends could ever dream of.
I know the ole Ford I got out back will peal the rubber from corner to corner. I had them spining so good one day tranny hit second while they were spining and they kept spining. that was cool. that was also when the truck ran. thats been a while back. LOL
