I just started my engine rebiuld this weekend. I took the manifolds off, took the plug wires off, and took the valve covers off. Today I'm taking the heads and intake manifold offand more. Wish me luck I will need it It is my 1st rebiuld considering I'm 14. I'm sure I'll have many Q's !!!!!!!
have fun my first was on a 302 two ,when i was 13, lol but that engine ended up blowing apart when my frount pig slamed thought the oil pan. So now im runnig a 400+ HP 351 ceveland cobra jet.
Last I heard you wanted to build a 351. Or is that just a boat ancor in you garage or are you just to busy trying to put in a nw shtter in your house? You know the old saying sht or get off the board.

Check with a machine shop and see if they have any salvage blocks or parts laying around. If you find another one, you will need to have the block align bored because those caps are machined to the engine they came from.
What isn't interchangeable? The crankshaft balance is different between the early and the late model 302's, but you should be able to use the '84 blocks main cap.
My buddy bought a couple of junk yard motors for his mustang and bronco and they both worked great. the one in the bronco is a 1992 mustang 5.0Ho he got for $220 and it still turned over and had good compression so it ran. That is a stout bronco and his mustang is a strong runner too. Both stock mustang rollers.
but it is a gamble. Any 80s 302 or 351 should be good with out the egr, rv cam, 87$ summit headers, and if you are really ambitious a port and polish job of the carburater and intake through the heads with 1.94"/ 1.6" valves. I think that those motors all came with 8:1-8.5:1 compression which is good for 87 octane.
I think you could build one of these motors for 900$+ any labor.
