how much lift

i have a 79 f-350 4x4 that i want to lift and put 38.5" boggers on. i want to use a skyjacker lift but do i need the 6" or will the 4" be enough? i don't have a problem cutting the fenders, but don't want to go too crazy so i can use bushwacker flares. any suggestions would be great. thanks

How much do you drive the truck, is it reliable, is it rusty. Sometimes if there is a little rust arould the wheel wells a fender shave will clean it up. If the truck is real clean id go with the 6 inch lift.

it is not a daily driver, just a toy. there is actually very little if any rust on the cab but the box i am putting on it is pretty rough. above the wheel wells is completely gone. the front fenders aren't rusted but some dents, and the wheel well lips have lots of holes in them from factory trim and at least one set of flares, so it doesnt bother me to cut them out. i just didn't want to cut out too much for the bushwacker flares to work, and i want a stock looking gap above the tires so it doesnt look goofy. i would rather use the 4" lift if it will look ok, but will go 6 if i need to. just don't want to overdo it and have too big of a gap. i know i could always just go bigger tires but don't think i want to.

The 4 inch lift sounds good because your body is some what rusty. Then you can trim the fenders out if needed to get the tires to fit.
