I have a 93 F150 5.0. After the truck warms up a little bit , the idle wont come down. Sometimes it does sometimes doesnt with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Also it surges on mild acceleration. So far I have replaced the tps cleaned the injectors fixed a couple of minor vaccum leaks. Its really annoying the gas mileage is low also any ideas?
Check your IAC. with the engine idling pull the electrical connector off the IAC and if the idle stays the same you have a bad controller. If the engine dies then your IAC is working. Check for any exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor. I have a '93 and in case you didn't know there is a recall on the fuel regulator for '93 5.0's I have yet to take mine in because it's working but that could be your problem
It sounds more like you EGR is sticking starving your motor for air
at low rpm is when the EGR is wide open so the motor can burn the excess fule that did not burn at WOT the EGR is closed because the motor needs the back pressure at high RPM's to keep from throwing a ro or burning your valves i sugest going to your local parts store and get a EGR gasket and 2 cans of brake part cleaner use acatch pan do that after you hose out the EGR you can let it soak then blow it out w/ an air hose if you have a compressor if not use what god gave ya use the new gasket and put it back on it should help a lot if not the EGR is bad Due to a bad spring and you just have to replace it
