i would think and hope that the GOV would store them in case of another disater so they wouldn't have to spend money to buy new ones again. of course thats what I would do if i was running things.

Actually, they are yours to live in for a year and a half, and than you have the option to buy the one you are staying in for $3500. These are all brand new campers, not a single used one, the ones that people cant afford to buy go to auction. My boss's brother recieved one for him and his wife, 3 days later they roll up with another one, he told them that it was only he and his wife and the second one wasnt necassary, the guy delivering it told him that he was instructed to bring it here and thats where he was leaving it. That camper is now paid for and sitting on a lot for our out of town employees to stay in while they are here working. FEMA is not very careful with the way they are spending money. They ordered some for St. Bernard Parish, these people were living in tents and their cars, they brought the campers to the Parish but no one could live in them cause they didnt have the sticker on them identifying them as a FEMA item, and they werent paid for yet. The camper dealer brought the keys to them and helped them move the campers to where they could live in them. FEMA said screw yall, now we arent going to pay for them.
When the flood hit here a while back, they brought them in. A lot of people trashed them. When they went for sale (at least the ones I seen) they weren't any cheaper than any where else. Now I could have missed the good sale as the ones I looked at were at a lot.

I guess they would sell to the highest bidder at auction, but if your home was destroyed and you recieved one from FEMA than you have the option to buy it for $3500 after a year and a half. Most of these campers will be trashed out, and who ever is currently occupying them will not be able to buy it, so maybe thats why they go to auction instead of just trying to sell them used. Of course it will be interesting to hear the stink that will be raised when the year and a half is up and people havent yet made any arrangements for another place to live but cant afford to buy the camper.
When they gave the campers here, for the most part, it was for home owners that could hook up to thier power, sewer and water while they worked or had work done on their home (they were set up at their home property). The people who rented or there was nothing to rebuild were given a mobile home set up in a temporary park to live in for a pre-determined time (up to one year I think). If you were in the system you were given a nice check also. Most spent the check on whatever and were eventually forced by the courts to leave the temporary home.(in some cases quite a while after they were supposed to and probably at an additional expense to the tax payers)
Medic 66 , I did hear of some good deals but not any first hand knowledge (this was in eastern NC) but I would think if you had any connections in the area you might get better information. Good luck!
I believe if you had a residence (not apartment or M\H) you could get a camper to set on site and use the available utilities while you repaired or had repairs made. If you were displaced with nowhere to go or lived in an apartment you could go to the temporary parks they set up. Again that was in Eastern NC it may be different in La.
