My 2005 F-250 keeps telling me there is water in the fuel. I drain the water our every other day. It has been going on for about a month now. I have filled up many times from different places and it keeps coming on. Is there any way to check if there realy is water in the fuel or if the sensor is just bad? the fuel comming out looks like plain deisel. ???
Yes, the next time your light comes on, drain your filter into a glass jar. Diesel fuel floats on water, so look for a layer of fuel, with some amount of water at the bottom of the jar. Last time I drained mine, I had about 2 inches of fuel floating on an inch of water. Good luck.
Sorry to bump this since it is so old, but I can't make a new thread for some reason. My water in diesel light came on the other day and I drained the seperator for a while, didn't look like any more water in it but the light is still on. Could it be a filter problem? Someone said it could be the sensor too. Anyone had the light not turn off after draining the water out before? I need this fixed ASAP. Thank guys!
make sure you drain it until nothing more comes out. mine ended up taking like 15 times emptying it to get all the water out, but the light hasn't come back on for a while now. Think I got it all.

Ahhh, about how much came out? In the 6.0L documents area it has a page on draining it and it said "Allow the HFCM to drain for approximately 25 seconds or until clean fuel is observed. A very full fuel tank will cause the HFCM to drain fuel until tank is low enough for flow to stop." I just tried draining it again into a glass jar and it looked clean, didn't see any water settle under the diesel or anything. I might just go let it drain until it is done. Anyone else with this issue?
Ugh, I let it drain until it stopped and it didn't fix it. I pulled the battery cables for a while and then checked it again and it still didn't fix it. In to the dealer it goes
If the sensor gets corroded it will cause the water in fuel light to come on when there is no water present. There was a TSB awile back on this issue i believe, can't seem to locate it right off. If your truck is still in warranty take it into the dealer.

Hope this helps
I saw this in my other thread and this is what I did:

If that doesnt fix it, you will need the manifold and sensor assembly.
I did all that and let it dry out and put it back together. I started it up and the light turned off. I let it idle for a while and after about 2 minutes and it started to idle rough and died. I noticed it was leaking a bit from the HFCM so I tightened it (it was a bit loose). Tried starting up again and nothing. I reset the computer by pulling the battery cables for a while and still nothing. I took the cover off the HFCM and noticed there was no fuel in either incoming or retun lines. I thought I had let it prime (putting key in aux). Is there another way to prime the lines? I need this up and running
