The infamous leak

2nd Truck..
Fine up until about 7k miles. Then started getting moist. Few hundred miles down the road, began the leak.

Its been to ford 3 time changing the RMS, then the o-ring and RMS, then tech said the bolts had to be thrusted tighter.
I can only assume that the problem is not from the tranny but that it may be leaking somewhere from the engine??

Im not sure. I love the truck, the engine is fabulous. 3 years since debuted, and still no solution to the leak? Not sure what to do anymore it seems ford is telling me a different excuse everytime i bring it back.

Sorry, just venting i guess.

I had changed my oil around 22,500 miles and noticed oil on the front of the bell housing...thought it was the RMS...took it to dealer...got good news and bad news...good news, not the RMS...bad news, bed plate oil gasket...4 days and a complete R&R of the engine...thank goodness for warranty...

Yeah, That's what they told me also...Bed pan gasket, or something like that. Three weeks later, they return the vehicle...still leaked. I currently have it into a different shop this time...maybe a second set of eyes will help. Hope you have better luck. I'll probably give up and let it leak if they can't fix it...I love the excursion too much.

7500 miles, oil now leaking in the driveway. Have towed nothing since new. It is coming down the passenger side, dripping off some bolt, some traveling to the RMS bell housing area. I still am holding off until I absolutely have to go in for some other work. You would think that spending 10 cents more on a better gasket would be well worth the money compared to warranty work costs. In my job, they call this a "cost-benefit analysis".

Thumbs up

I too started noticing an oil seepage. I noticed it at about 7K miles on my '05 6.0L. I wiped it off from the front of the bell housing as soon as I noticed it, just to see if it would come back. It did a few weeks later. I didn't wipe it off the second time for about two months, just to see if it would get worse. It never did, it was like the oil leak was just enough to stay moist. The leak never was bad enough to actually drip off on to the ground. I was hoping it wasn't the rear main. I saw somewhere, I believe on this sight some time ago, that there are about 5 potential areas it could leak from and appear like it was the rear main. I finally took it into Ford today (now about 11,500 miles). They found the leak almost immediately and said it was a bad O-ring for the cam postion sensor that was leaking slightly and collecting down at the bellhousing. I'll go pick it up this afternoon. Hope this is the fix, but at least they washed the truck for me.
