I need to build a platform in the yard to mount my tire changer. I was planning on using 2x6 to make form. I am thinking about making it 4'x4'. How many 80 pound bags of ready mix do I need. Was also wondering if 2x6s for form boards would be overkill.
How is the tire changer mounted to the crete? If it is just a single tube, you might be better off going deeper into the ground, and not so big around. Make like a 1 1/2-2 foot dia. hole a couple foot into the ground. It'd probably be less concrete, and stronger since a 2x6 form means only like 5 inches will be bearing the pressure of the tire changer, as compared to a few feet with a narrow deep hole.
Nick the tire changer will be mounted with 4 inch long 1/2 inch anchorbolts. It is not the good old fashioned type it is the ones you get at tool sales and such now. I do not need it to support weight the tire changer can be picked up easily I just need something to hold it steady. Thanks for all the good info from both of you. I am gonna form some lifting provisions into the crete so I can hoist it onto my trailor if I have to move it so its not going in the ground. I will make sure I get plenty of reinforcement in it I have plenty of old cage wire to get rid of.
All right, I see what you're doing with it now. You just need something basically to stabilize it. I thought it was gettin set in the ground or something.
