I was window shopping today and I was looking at their kits and podering the possibilities, and I was wondering.....What is the reason they sell a kit for an Auto Trans and a manual trans? I mean if this was an 87 mustang I wouldnt think it would matter because the AOD is a non Electric trans so its actually like a manual.....in a manner of speaking.
I still dont see why it would matter... are you saying that the auto MAF system has a sensor monitoring vacuum but it doesnt on a manual? How whould that make any differance?
Eric, I read somewhere that the computer for the auto had a more aggressive timing curve to make up for the losses from the auto trans.
This made some sense to me, but didn't explain why the A9L (manual trans) is still more popular than the A9P (auto trans).
Also, I've read the the auto computer will work in a manual although it may trigger a CEL since the compter can't find the tranny, but that there are more problems associated with trying to run a manual computer in an auto.
Not disagreeing with you, just throwing it out there for discussion. I hold your knowledge and expertise in these matters in very high esteem and would be interested in getting your input.
BTW, I recently scored an A9L that I'm planning to use for my Ranger 5.0 swap. A guy I know had it just sitting in his garage and gave it to me, along with the Mass Air engine and main wiring harnesses. I bought a '91 WC T5 from him for 300 bucks a few months back and he's been kicking me down stuff for free ever since.
So which one would everyone reccomend for use with the my set up. Im gonna use the Baumman Eliminator control unit for my E4od and Im still wondering which kit to use? Auto or Manual kit?
This made some sense to me, but didn't explain why the A9L (manual trans) is still more popular than the A9P (auto trans).
Possibly because there are a lot more of them?
To me it really doesn't matter, if you can get your hands on a a9l or a9p, use either one. The timing tables can be changed if desired anyway and I'm sure it's really not a big difference between either computer.
The base determinant of firing order is the camshaft being used. So if you use an e-cam or TFS 1, it'll have a 302HO/351 order. The mustang computer is set on that same firing order (injector firing order).
All you'd need to do is switch the plug wires to the 302ho/351 firing order.
