Auto trans in a '94 E150.

I'm new to your forum and i'm very glade I found it.4 months ago I got a '94 E150,conv.,138wb,5.8,165K,E4OD trans,3.55 rear end,A/C and power everything.I plan on keeping this one long term.
The van was a danger to drive so I put Bilstien's,3/4HD coils and 1.25" sway bar in the front and helwig progessive adjustable 2500LB helper springs and 1.125" sway bar in the rear.I whent from Fear to FUN in the corners!
I plan on diving 2,500 to 4,000 mi. in Baja ca. in the fall for camping and surfing so it will be a lot of off road, hot, dusty driving,so I want to get the trans up to snuff.I have done a lot of wrenhing over the years but I do not know S**t about auto trans.I have read some of the great posts and have come up with changing trans ATF as per article by Mark Kovalsky, shift kit-R/V-HD towing, temp gauge, aux. COOLER,in line filter ?
If anyone has comits, sugestions, wise words,do's and don'ts,good products it would be helpfull. THANKS CCH

Sounds like a lot of fun. I agree on the suspension stuff. I did much of the same stuff on my '95 E150 Clubwagon. Do change the fluid and filter and be sure to drain the torque converter. Use a quality transmission fluid. Add a bottle of Lubgard transmission additive. Its the best stuff in the industry.

Your van should have a factory transmission cooler visible in the upper, driver's side corner of the grill opening. If its there, no need to bother with another cooler that one will work just fine. No need for an inline filter. They are really only used to remove debris trapped in the cooler after a major transmission failure.

I wouldn't do the shift kit either unless you are having the trans overhauled. Then have a Superior Pump Kit installed along with their shift kit. The pump kit works great but required the pump be out of the trans for installation.

A temp gauge is never a bad idea.

I added an engine oil temp. gauge, a transmission temp. gauge and a tachometer. As a result, I added an engine oil cooler that is similar to the OEM transmission oil cooler. That, was a LOT of work, but it dropped the towing temperatures a lot. I also drained the tranmission, torqure conveter and the rear axle and used Mobil 1 synthetic fluids. I also use Mobil 1 in the engine. These changes made everything cooler.
