352's were common,I not familiar with the bigger Fords. But if it had a 352 that puts you in the FE family and I know the 390 and 428 can move a truck!

Thanks for the reply. The 360 falls in the same block category does'nt it ???? You would'nt by any chance know of an online cross reference guide to help a guy get detailed info would you???

Thanks for the welcome. I own 6 ford trucks ranging from 58 to 96, most are in various states of needing repairs of one kind or another. You all may be getting alot of stupid questions out of me.

Sourmash, welcome to the site. I'm not sure om the bigger truck engines, but I think that what you have is a industrial engine, that is a FT not a FE. The FT were 331, 361 and 391ci engines, On the out side they look the same, but were built for heavy use. If you need to change the engine a FE will bolt in. If you go down the forum list you will find the FE forum and the guys there can help you alot.

Thanks,,,,,,,,I'll give them a try. It looks like either way finding a different engine won't be to easy.

You can still find FE engines that are rebuildable in the wrecking yards here in Oregon pretty cheap, have not look for any of the FT's.

Sourmash, Welcome to FTE

The only V8 offered in 65 pickups was a FE 352, other well known FEs 360, 390, 428, & 427. Lesser known left out.

The FE has a unique tranny bell and others will not bolt up to it. A 360 is a 390 bore block with a 352 crank and rotating assembly.

The FE is an excellent pulling engine for any truck. Any part external will swap between the 352, 360, & 390.

You would be as happy as a fat baby with a big nipple in his mouth with a 390 in the truck.

John

an f650 should have an FT engine, most likely a 330. An FT is a heavy duty FE engine with the only real visual diffrence being that the timing cover of cast iron instead of aluminum. But the term heavy duty is relitive here. using an FT engine over an FE engine is like using a 10 pound sledge hammer instead of an 8 pound sledge hammer to drive fence nails. There both overkill. FE engines are plentiful, and the 352, 360, and 390 are all fairly common. All the FE series also make more horsepower and torque than the FT series

Thanks again guys. You have broadened the options for me to search for an engine.

When this project is done,,I'll be asking as to where a guy can find an affordable mazda 5 speed for my 93 150.

Thumbs up same...and not

as you can see, this is a great place to come with your questions.Although most everything is interchangable between the FT and FE,I understand that the nose on the FT crank is a larger diameter. You can have it machined down to FE specs or make sure that you have the pulleys/harmonic balancer, spacer etc. to match. The book "FORD ENGINE PARTS INTERCHANGE" by George Reid is a gold mine of information on Ford V-8's. See you on the FE forum.

You'll have to share your secret on getting her to clean them that often. The only thing mine will do for me is cash my paychecks

I hope you enjoy your 65 ! I have a 65 M-600 that had a 330 FT that was changed to a 361 FT - so I am told it is a 361. It is a rebuilt that was put in before I bought it. (Another project not complete). I think the style of the mid 60"s cab is almost perfect - great styling. Again I wish you luck on your project.
