My truck is apart right now getting the recall work done for the Reverse Planetary Gearset. I started having trouble with the transmission about a week ago. It would "seem" to go in and out of gear while sitting at a stop light. As I found out this is caused by some metal particles that make their way into the valvebody and shift solenoids. As you will see in the pictures below these particles are caused by 1 out of 4 pins that has come loose and started rubbing against the outer part of the gearset. The transmission has to be removed and COMPLETELY disassembled in order to remove and replace the gearset.
wow nice pics I have had 3 trannies just like that but you atleast got the parts I am up in Canada and had to wait for the parts to be released to Canada so that meant that they put in a tranny that still had that problem and that one only lasted about 5000 kms and I lost over a month and a half of my truck sitting in the shop
Definetly, good pics KB, thanks for posting them,,,my 06' F-350 PSD tranny acts alittle funny sometimes, but mostly snowplowing and going into reverse, sometimes theres a lag, with a shutter like tranny is slipping,,, dealer knows there is an issue there with my truck. Thanks for the pics ,,,great site this is.,,,,
They totaled up the cost of parts which came out to just over $2200 bucks (which they thought was above the cost of a reman unit). Then they called Ford and were told that the cost had gone up to $2400 for a reman and that they needed to repair it instead. In a way I rather have my local tech rebuild it since I know he knows what he is doing since he has done many of the recalls for this anyway. I don't have as much trust in "Joe Smoe" doing the reman's somewhere else.
No plowing with my crewcab as my 05 super cab work truck has a plow on it.
Not sure about the recall code. What is an FQR? I assume that is an acronym for a "Re-Manufactured unit"?
I feel better about the unit being re-assembled or rebuilt (however you want to look at it) locally. I have more confidence in my local tech than in someone I don't know.
FQR stands for Ford Quailty Rebuild it is what the dealers call a rebuilt part that comes ready to install like if you were to get a new tranny from Ford it would most likly be a FQR
